Guys, I am having a problem with my cranking battery. If I catch a fish early on and am on the trolling motor for a couple hours before running again, my boat doesn't want to start. My cranking battery is to weak. I have my pumps on, my GPS on. Everything runs off of the cranking battery excpt of course the trolling motor. Does anyone else have problems like this or have any suggestions on how to correct it? I thought about adding another bettery but that would put alot more weight in the boat. Im not sure what to do.

It says 890 cold cranking amps. And also 1000 marine cranking amps. Both my graphs shut off when I try to turn it on also.I think I am going to upgrade it regardless. This has happened to me a couple times before. I definitely need one before our next tournament though. I am going to look into the AGM batteries. Thanks guys for the help.

If your graphs shut off that is a sure sign that the battery is too small for all the amps you are drawing with the graphs and aerators. The engine computer powers down the graphs so you'll have enough volts to turn the motor over..... Graphs shut off when the voltage gets too low. You need a Group 30 to power everything and not have to worry about running it low. The battery you have now is the Minimum requirement to turn the motor over....once you add all the electronic draw, it is way too small. The Cabelas AGM's are dual purpose , Sears makes a real good Die Hard AGM also in a Group 30........ The sealed AGM's are nice, no maintenance at all....just clean the terminals once a year and your good. No off gases to corrode hoses in the bilge either like standard wet cell batteries, they do not off gas, all the gasses are self contained in the case and converted back to water ....

Went out today out of the Bohemia because of the BFL. things started of slow. Finally got my $hit together and caught three keepers in 5 casts. Decided to run and try new areas, not a good idea. Decided to run again and on the way my alarm bell on my smart craft gauge went off. Water pressure was fine, temp was fine. Go to get on plane and the motor had NO balls at all. My rpms were low and my top speed dropped to 48-50 MPH. I am dropping it off at my mechanic on Monday. I though maybe a fauled plug or water in the gas. I talked to my mechanic on the phone ont he water and he said the motor dropped the rpms and the speed to guard itself from damage. I hope its nothing serious. Also my bounce buster on my trolling motor came loose. The screw was stripped out. Also the pin that holds the top pivot arm to the bottom pivot arm. Was not the best day. Hopefully I can get everything figured out by our tournament on the Sass.

I got a call yesterday and he said the number 1 cylinder went down due to a bad wiring harness. It had a bad crimp and broke at the pin. That caused the bell to go off. Also he said that when he plugged the computer in, it said I overheated 4 times. I know my smartcraft has gone off because my temperature went up but I fixed it right on the water. He said when he recieves the new harness he will run the motor to make sure the compressor isn't shot which it should not be. If it is then Mercury may not cover it under warranty and it will $600 to repair. I will know more next week. I think the compressor is fine because it was running fine untill the cylinder went down. He then told me to watch my rmps because I am close to 6000. I told him I run around 5700-5800 which is fine but he said that if I am in rough water the prop may spin for a moment and run higher that normal. He was just letting me know that because in the futur if something happens he has to send a print ojjut of the computer to Mercury for any warranty work and they might pregnant dog because they see the rpms at a higher ranger. When I pick the boat up at Franzwas, I am going to talk to him about getting out of this boat and into a Cat. I also told myself my next boat will have a 225 or 250 if they make one by then, Honda 4 stroke. I know its probably heavier and I'll loose a couple MPH but I know Honda are bulletproof. I had to Honda streetbikes and they ran like you would not believe. Those motors are awesome. I will let you know when I hear something.
