HIV/AIDS Symptoms and Signs
HIV infection occurs in three primary stages, each with distinct symptoms. HIV Prevalence Acute
A little more than two-thirds of persons with HIV suffer symptoms similar to a severe case of the flu within the first two to four weeks of their infection. Fever may appear along with other symptoms such a sore throat, swollen glands, mouth sores, rashes, diarrheas', exhaustion, headache, and discomfort in the muscles and joints as the immune system mobilizes to fight against the virus. Who Should Take an HIV Test?
Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 is advised by the CDC to undergo an HIV test at least once. HIV testing should be done more often in those who are at higher risk. People in this higher-risk category are individuals who have the following: • Had multiple sexual partners in the previous year • Had a partner who was HIV-positive • A year ago, received a hepatitis, TB, or sexually transmitted illness diagnosis or treatment • Traded sexual favors for drugs or cash • Centrally controlled injection apparatus The CDC recommends getting tested even if you don't belong to any of these riskier categories but believe your partner could. Testing should also be done on those who are trying to get pregnant or are already pregnant. If you have HIV, initiating treatment during pregnancy can significantly lower the likelihood that your unborn child will also have HIV. Dr. Raina’s Safe Hands Clinic
